After a little hiatus, getting back into the groove with a post about action. A lot of what has motivated me to switch to this format has to do with today’s card.
Action is required - What are you doing about it?
Anytime we look at the situation and we don’t like what’s happening, when we identify what we don’t like in the impacts, or even the identify some causes, the next thing we should ask ourselves is, “What am I doing about it?”
Identifying issues, problems, and pain points is all well and good, but without taking intentional action to do something different, it doesn't matter.
A quick story:
I used to do a fair bit of writing, and somewhere along the way I got out of the habit. As a part of trying to improve and better myself, I started trying to do more writing by starting Orienting through Exploration. I started out pretty good all in all but then started to sputter. I was frustrated with my inconsistent writing.
I realized I had to do something different, and so I realized I needed to be oriented toward action. I knew that I wasn’t getting the outcome I wanted. So I decided to experiment, and come up with a course of action. The way I have been writing and posting has been that experiment, and I would say that I have been getting better outcomes in terms of simply building the posting habit. I’ll worry more about depth of content and other aspects in the future, but for now, this is the right action.
I’m working on living the things I’m learning while exploring; to be a living demonstration of principles and behaviors I write about.
This same mindset can and should be applied to everything we are trying to accomplish. Once we have clarity of intention, clarity of outcome, we need to be taking action to bring those outcomes to fruition.
So when you see a problem, make sure you ask, “what am I going to do about it?” If the answer is nothing, then you should move on to something else that you WILL take action on.
