Lots of times we can get “in a rush” to get to where we think we are going. We may think we don’t have any time, and the world around us may make us feel that things are moving too quickly, and we need to catch up. That’s where slowing down might actually help.
Intentionality and slowing down
When you start to be intentional, you understand your desires, and you realize what it will take to be competent, you may find that you need to slow down.
That’s ok, even good. Recognizing what you need to do to act intentionally, move toward your desires, and be competent is huge!
This may seem counter intuitive to the concept of sense of urgency, or maximizing our lives, but I think the concepts are actually congruent. If I go really fast, and try to move too soon, without learning along the way, I risk ending up not doing things intentionally, I risk ending up not meeting my own expectations, and potentially end up further back with more to do than if I would have just taken the time
You can still have a sense of urgency while taking your time to act with intention. You can still maximize your actions and life while taking your time to learn to do things well.
Slowing down allows you to understand more deeply about the mechanics of the actions you are taking, to learn about the system you are building for yourself to be successful. Slowing down allows you to absorb information and learn from your actions and outcomes. It allows you to adjust your actions to make sure you are getting the outcomes you want in the way you want.
In a fast paced world, it's ok to slow down while being intentional to help your learning and growth.
